Self-Exclusion Resources
Self-exclusion is a formal process that prevents you from accessing betting accounts. All licensed Kenyan bookmakers are required to offer self-exclusion options.
Contact your bookmaker
Call or email SportPesa, Betika, or your bookmaker's customer support.
Request self-exclusion
Ask to be excluded from their platform. You can choose 6 months, 1 year, or permanent exclusion.
Confirm your identity
You may need to verify your identity to complete the exclusion.
Exclusion takes effect
Your account will be suspended and you will not be able to place bets during the exclusion period.
Healthy vs Unhealthy Gambling
Healthy Approach
- •Betting only what you can afford to lose
- •Treating betting as entertainment, not income
- •Setting strict time and money limits
- •Taking regular breaks
- •Never chasing losses
Warning Signs
- •Betting with money needed for bills or food
- •Believing betting will solve financial problems
- •Hiding betting from family
- •Increasing stakes to recover losses
- •Feeling compelled to bet
The Mathematical Reality
Bookmakers operate with a mathematical edge called the overround. This means the sum of all implied probabilities in a market exceeds 100%, ensuring the bookmaker profits over time. Combined with Kenya's 20% withholding tax on gross winnings, the long-term expected return for bettors is negative. Betting should be treated as entertainment with a defined budget, not as a financial strategy.
